The Alexander Lady Spartans fell in a physical battle against the Warren Lady Warriors 47-39.

Leading the charge for the Lady Warriors was Peytin Bowe and Molly McCutchen. Bowe had 13 points and was a force on the boards with six rebounds. Close behind her for Warren was McCutchen with 12 points.

Defense was the top priority for both squads. The Lady Warriors kept pressure on the Lady Spartans throughout the game by running the full court press forcing Alexander to turn the ball over. The Lady Warriors tenacious defense caused the Lady Spartans to settle for low percentage shots that they could not hit. Alexander went into the locker room leading 25-17 but was not able to come out and finish the game strongly.

Warren came out determined in the third quarter cutting the lead to only three. Warren found a way to beat Alexander’s 2-3 zone by driving to the paint and drawing fouls. The Lady Warriors made 8 trips to the foul line in the second half.

On the offensive side of the ball for Alexander it was all Jala Mace and Leah Richardson combining for 30 of the 39 points scored for Alexander tonight. Mace also led the team in rebounds pulling in seven.

The three ball was not falling for the Lady Spartans, going only 4-26 from the three-point line. This was all caused by the close physical defense by the Lady Warriors forcing Alexander to settle for the three-point shot.

Alexander (1-1) looks to get back in the win column this Thursday against the Jackson Ironladies.
