John Glenn Being Treated In Columbus
< < Back to john-glenn-being-treated-in-columbusFormer astronaut and U.S. Senator John Glenn is in the hospital and undergoing treatment. No details are being given about his condition or possible illness.
Hank Wilson with Ohio State University’s John Glenn College of Public Affairs made the announcement Wednesday. While the 95-year-old is at the James Cancer Hospital, Wilson says that doesn’t necessarily mean Glenn has cancer.
The Associated Press reports Glenn mentioned having lost some of his “eyesight because of macular degeneration and a small stroke.” He also had heart surgery in 2014.
Glenn grew up in the small eastern Ohio village of New Concord. He was one of the original Mercury astronauts and the first American to orbit the earth.
Ohio’s current two senators both issued statements Wednesday.
Sen. Rob Portman tweeted, “Jane and I send our thoughts and prayers on a speedy recovery to our dear friend John Glenn.”
Sen. Sherrod Brown says, “Connie and I ask Ohioans to join us in sending our love to John and Annie Glenn and their children and to respect their family’s privacy at this difficult time.”
