Athens Bulldogs Earn Tough Win At Home
< < Back toBoth the boys and Lady Bulldogs were in action this past week, but only the boys came away with a victory.
The boys only had one game, but it was a big game. The Bulldogs welcomed the Logan Elm Braves in what would be a back and forth battle all night long.
Both teams came in with winning records, Athens (5-1) while Logan Elm was (5-2). The game was tied at 13 at the end of the first quarter with star Griffin Lutz with just two points.
Athens was trailing 30-28 at halftime, but the break was exactly what Coach Mickey Cozart and his Bulldogs needed. After an 11-0 run by the Bulldogs, Athens grabbed the lead at the end of the third quarter and never surrendered it.
Athens would continue to push the ball into the paint and find ways to get the ball to Lutz who did the rest. Lutz finished the game with 28 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists en route to a 70-62 victory.
Athens now gets a long break before returning to the floor to take on the Meigs Marauders on Jan. 8.
As for the Lady Bulldogs, they continued to struggle as the lost their only game to Gallia Academy, 47-40.
The loss now increases the Lady Bulldogs losing streak to 10, however this was the closest game they have been in a while.
Coach Paul McNeal reiterates that his team is young and that they are only going to get better. He likes how his team shows no signs of giving up and wants to get better despite losing.
The Lady Bulldogs get their next chance to snap their 10-game losing streak against the Federal Hocking Lady Lancers on Jan. 4.
