The Athens Bulldogs dominated the Alexander Spartans 48-31 during a TVC matchup on Tuesday night. Athens controlled the momentum of the game and made smart plays that ultimately resulted in their win against Alexander. They hopped out with an early lead and appeared to be in control.

Athens had the lead for the entire game and led 24-11 at the half. Griffin Lutz was the leading scorer for Athens on Tuesday night and he dominated on both sides of the court. Griffin put up 16 points, had six rebounds and two steals. Logan Maxfield also had 10 points for Athens.

The main obstacle for the Spartans was the Bulldogs’ 2-3 zone that they executed beautifully. The Bulldogs forced Alexander outside on defense and forced them to take shots by covering under the basket so efficiently. Alexander was unable to get easy layups or gain momentum because Athens played so strong defensively.

Alexander hoped to come back strong in the second half, but they never quite found their rhythm. Kam Riley had some offensive action and put up 10 points for Alexander, along with Chace Harris with nine.

Athens will play their next game against Marietta on Saturday, while Alexander will play Vinton County on Friday night.
