Alexander Lady Spartans Advance to District Championship
< < Back toThe one-seeded Alexander Lady Spartans kept their playoff run alive Saturday afternoon in a 50 to 36 victory over the Minford Lady Falcons, advancing to the district championship.
Alexander jumped out in front from the beginning and held an early 10-point lead entering the second quarter, only allowing Minford to score one bucket in the first quarter.
Leah Richardson was a main reason the Lady Spartans were so successful throughout the game, especially in the first half.
“I got on Leah early in the game for not being aggressive enough, but then she got going and that’s what we needed,” Alexander head coach Cory McKnight said.
Richardson had 12 points entering halftime and finished the game with 16 points and four rebounds.
The Lady Spartans kept distance from Minford for most of the game, but the Lady Falcons cut Alexanders 11-point halftime lead to seven points early in the third quarter.
That was as close as they would get though, as the Lady Spartans strong offense and full court press was too much for Minford to handle.
The Lady Falcons were led by Erin Daniels, who finished the game with 14 points and set pressure on Leah Richardson all game.
Alexis Mohler finished the game with four three-pointers and Rachel Richardson also added 12 points for the Lady Spartans. Jala Mace finished with eight points.
Minford finishes their season with 14-6 final record and are losing two seniors. They are returning four talented juniors next year, including Erin Daniels.
The Lady Spartans next game is this upcoming Friday against the three-seeded North Adams Green Devils, who defeated Wheelersburg to advance to the district championship. Game time is set for 8:15 pm at Waverly High School.
