Butch Baird Wins MAC East Pitcher of the Week
< < Back to butch-baird-wins-mac-east-pitcher-of-the-weekOhio baseball junior pitcher Butch Baird was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week on Monday after he led his team to a 3-0 victory in this past weekend series against Western Kentucky University.
Baird took the mound for the Bobcats in his third start of the year on Saturday in the second game of the weekend series. The left-handed pitcher went 6.2 innings and didn’t allow a run, struck out two and only gave up four hits and two walks. In his three 2017 starts, Baird is 2-0 with a 2.04 ERA and has eight strike outs in the 17.2 innings he has been on the mound for Ohio.
The Ohio pitching staff has recorded three total shutouts just this year after throwing only one last season.
This is the second MAC Pitcher of the Week award earned by an Ohio pitcher as redshirt junior Jake Roehn received the award. February 27. Redshirt junior infielder/pitcher Michael Klein won MAC East Division Player of the Week February 20.
Ohio baseball (7-5) will be on the road again this weekend as they travel to Dayton. The Bobcats will take on the Dayton Flyers on Friday (March 10) then make their way to Wright State on Saturday (March 11) for a doubleheader before traveling back to Dayton to close the weekend on Sunday (March 12) against Western Illinois.
