Scott Finn told the House Finance Committee on Wednesday the layoffs will occur as West Virginia Public Broadcasting anticipates a partial or total elimination of its state appropriations.
Finn says the Educational Broadcasting Authority is scheduled to meet March 15 to approve eliminating 20 full-time positions at Public Broadcasting. Finn says five of the 20 positions are currently vacant.
Gov. Jim Justice has proposed the elimination of Public Broadcasting’s $4.6 million state appropriation, which amounts to nearly half of its total annual operating budget.
