The Ohio Bobcats swept their weekend tournament and now have swept the Mid-American Conference Players of the Week awards.

Alex Day was the East Division Player of the Week and Danielle Stiene claimed another Pitcher of the Week honor for Ohio.

Day and Stiene led the Bobcats to a 5-0 record over the weekend, including a four-game sweep in the College of Charleston Tournament.

Stiene started two games without allowing a run to cross the plate, including a five-inning perfect game and another near-perfect game.

Ohio beat Lafayette 8-0 on Saturday and Lafayette failed to have a player reach base. Stiene struck out eight of the 15 batters faced and even helped her own cause with a two-run single in the fifth inning.

Stiene started again on Sunday against Western Carolina and flirted with another perfect game. Stiene was perfect until she gave up a base hit with two outs in the fifth inning. Three hits came in the game, but again a run did not score.

Day complimented Stiene’s masterful pitching performances with masterful hitting performances.

Day hit .600 on the weekend, going 9-for-15 at the plate with five RBIs. Day knocked a double and the sophomore also hit her first career home run.

Ohio defeated the University of South Carolina Upstate on Friday, 3-2. All three Bobcat runs came from Day’s bat, including the home run.

The performances from Day and Stiene improved Ohio to 19-6 just before a home weekend series against MAC rival Toledo. Ohio’s 19 wins are the most of any MAC team and the six losses are the fewest in the conference.
