After spending the months since former Ohio University President Roderick McDavis left leading the university, the former interim president will now temporarily take over for outgoing Dr. Pam Benoit.

Dr. David Descutner was named Interim Executive Vice President and Provost of OU by President Duane Nellis, to fill in as the university looks for a successor to Benoit.

“He has been a tremendous asset to me, personally, as I embarked upon the beginning of my tenure as OHIO’s 21st president.” Nellis said in a statement. “It only makes sense to continue working closely with David as I continue to transition into my new role. His institutional knowledge and experience in academia will serve the University well in this interim capacity.”

Benoit accepted a position at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as senior vice president and provost.

Descutner was named interim president in January after former president Roderick McDavis announced his departure. He has served as interim president since March.

“I look forward to continuing to work closely with President Nellis as he integrates into his new role and to working with faculty as we continue in our efforts to remain the nation’s best transformative learning community,” Descutner said in a news release.

The position change will take effect on July 1.
