Week one of the high school season is here. The stadium rocked as everyone was excited to get the highly anticipated match-up between the Waterford Wildcats and Miller Falcons underway. It wouldn’t disappoint, Waterford defeated Miller 35-25 in a clash between two of the best TVC-Hocking teams.

Waterford is coming off an historic season where it made it all the way to the Regional Finals. Despite losing a number of key seniors, on the first drive of the game the Wildcats drove 70-yards down the field and capped it off when Peyten Stephens scored on a Quarterback sneak from one-yard out to give Waterford a 7-0 lead.

Early in the second quarter, Waterford extended its lead to 14-0 after running back Braden Bellville broke out of countless Miller tackles and took it 42-yards to the end zone. He dominated the Falcons defense all game long.

Waterford had been dominating both sides of the ball until about 7:30 left in the half. Miller was able to find the end zone for the first time when Colby Bartley found Levi Vanbibber. The Falcons wouldn’t be done there as they took advantage of a Waterford interception and fumble on a kick return to take a 19-14 lead with 1:30 left in the half.

But guess who, Waterfords Braden Bellville took the ball 80-yards to the house to put Waterford up 20-19 and stop the Falcons scoring barrage.

The life seemed to taken out of Miller after that play, they could only tack on six more points in the second half whereas Bellville seemed to build off the kickoff return as he would go on to score Waterford’s 15 points in the second half. He would finish the night with 192 yards on 22 rushing attempts.

Waterford will now look ahead to week two when they travel to Wahama to take on the White Falcons next Friday. As for Miller they look to put week one behind them, they will be taking on the Eastern Eagles at home next Friday.
