Zanesville Community Theatre Opening ‘Sherlock Holmes’ Sept. 8

The Zanesville Community Theatre will be opening its 55th season this coming weekend with the drama Sherlock Holmes, based on the perennially popular stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 8, 9, 15, and 16 at 8 p.m. There will also be two Sunday matinees on September 10 and 17 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for adult patrons are $15; senior, military and student tickets are $10. Tickets for youth 12 and under are $5.

ZCT is also offering a special promotion for this production, along with the Muskingum County Library System. Each holder of a Muskingum County Library System borrower’s card may purchase one ticket to Sherlock Holmes at a 50 percent discount.

Sherlock Holmes is a highly entertaining adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories about his famed detective. It features many of the well-known characters from the original works against the backdrop of foggy Victorian London. The play is directed for ZCT by Angel Palmer and Val Gahagan.

The cast is headed by Jay Shaffstall as Sherlock Holmes; Daniel Warne as Doctor Watson; and Lew Woodward as Professor Moriarty. Others include Michelle and Scott Robison as Madge and James Larrabee; Alaine Kay as Alice Faulkner; Monica Van Nort as Joan/Gashouse Gertie; Phil Palmer and Phil Sakal as Sid Prince (on alternating weekends); Dee McCarthy as Mrs. Bassick; Becca Wilson as Ginger; Payton Van Nort as Pepper; Katie Gahagan as Teresa; Kate Sharrer as the Flower Woman; Amelia Shaffstall as the Matchgirl; Ian Scott as Forman; Samantha Vandegriff Tyson as Mrs. Hudson; Rebecca Wagstaff as Lady Edwina; Anthony Palmer as Prince Carl; Kevin McCarthy as Lestrade; Nathan Scott and Gabriel Stemm as Newsboys; Denise Wilson as the Elegant Lady; Jan Smith as a Gentleman; Reanna Warne as Maggie Baskerville; and Pam Smith, Katie Tewksbary, Jerah-Lyn Gahagan, Lisa Olinger and Reanna Warne as Londoners.
