Alexander took control of the court as they faced off against Minford in the Division 3 District Semifinals at Waverly. The Lady Spartans brought home a win in just three sets sweeping the Lady Falcons out of the competition.

Alexander knocked Minford off their feet as they came out hot, leaving the Lady Falcons out of breath all game long. Minford was really only able to score because of errors from the Lady Spartan side of the court. Karsyn Raines of the Lady Spartans was hitting the ball left and right, sometimes too hard, giving the Lady Falcons a break.

Towards the end of the set, Alexander felt a little comfortable, allowing Minford to catch up a little, but not enough to take the lead. The Lady Falcons won the first set 25-21.

Minford came out with a little more hustle, but so did Alexander. Coach Nikki Ohms of the Lady Spartans said that she knew it was going to be a close game, but had faith in her girls to keep up the pace.

Her ladies played with better communication, throwing Minford for a loop as they couldn’t keep up with the quick passes. Alexander won the second set 25-20.

The third set, Minford started to use their height to their advantage. With two girls about 6-foot in front of the net, the Lady Falcons were able to push back Jenna Houpt and Raines off the net, setting their hits further back on the court. This made things easier for the Minford early in set three.

But this didn’t last long, as Alex was able to adjust to the opposing height, finding holes in the Minford backline. The Lady Spartans were able to find their rhythm once again and pull away with a victory, winning the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.

The Alexander Lady Spartans will advance to the District Finals this Saturday at Waverly High School against Westfall.
