COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – An online civics education initiative championed by retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and the late astronaut and U.S. Senator John Glenn has introduced a new interactive game about Ohio counties.

iCivics released Counties Work last week. It teaches students the functions and importance of local government. The website also provides free curriculum materials for teachers.

Counties Work allows students to assume the role of a county official responding to citizen requests and balancing attempts to keep people happy while responsibly managing county resources.

O’Connor founded iCivics in 2008 to promote engaged citizenship. Glenn, who died last year, agreed to lend his name and the public affairs college he helped found at Ohio State University to advance materials on the website about his home state of Ohio.
