< < Back to new-gym-brought-old-results-waterford-lady-wildcatsWaterford, who usually plays in the elementary school’s gym, played Southern in a make-up game. With an already scheduled wrestling tournament in place, the two squads had to switch to the high school.
The Lady Wildcats (12-1, 12-0 Tri-Valley Conference) came out on top, 66-19, over Southern (3-11, 2-9 TVC) and turned a slow start into a big win.
Early in the game, neither team could get shots to fall. Three minutes into the game, the Lady Wildcats only led 4-2. A timeout settled Waterford down and the lead grew to 13-2 in just a minute and a half. Southern trailed 25-6 at the end of the first quarter, only scoring four points in the quarter’s final few minutes.
The lead continued to balloon when Waterford started playing like a typical Waterford team.
Lady Wildcat coach Jerry Close let the bench players enter the game with about five minutes until halftime. Even with starters out, Waterford outscored the Lady Tornadoes 8-4 before a 42-12 halftime score.
The bench ran out most of the second half with some starters sprinkled in.
Southern hosts Federal Hocking on Thursday. The Lady Tornadoes fell to the Lady Lancers 48-32 on Dec. 16.
Waterford had a meeting with Trimble scheduled for Thursday. Since the Lady Tomcats’ season ended prematurely, Waterford will have an off day with a free TVC-Hocking win.
Waterford’s next game will then be a trip to South Gallia on Saturday. Waterford’s biggest win of the year was a 70-15 demolition of South Gallia on Dec. 14.
