One of the only professional baseball players from Vinton County made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut as a pitcher for the now-defunct Seattle Pilots baseball team on April 27, 1969.

The Seattle Pilots were a MLB team for only one year in 1969 before filing for bankruptcy and moving across the country to become the Milwaukee Brewers.
