Because there are no cat shelters in Athens, Ohio, local businesses have taken on the responsibility while working with the Humane Society. Hyacinth Bean floral shop is just one example. Among beautiful floral arrangements, garden decorations, and racks of clothing are adoptable kittens.

Owner Polly Creech says the shop has had about 115 adoptions, and she’s looks forward to more success in finding cats and kittens homes.

Petland and other local local shops also sponsor cats in Athens. The Humane Society takes care of all medical expenses. Locals can foster cats out of their homes. Despite all the help, there is still no official shelter in Athens that accepts cats at this time.
