Belmont County Sees Close Races for County Commission Nominations

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio — Belmont County voters saw two close races for the County Commissioner nomination for both major parties during Tuesday’s Primary Election.

Incumbent Mark Thomas won the nomination for the Democrats, securing 1448 votes. Chuck Probst was the runner-up with 1369 votes. Angela Hatfield recieved 1267 votes. And Michael Bianconi tallied 1239 votes.

On the Republican side, Jerry Echemann took the nomination with 1966 votes.He was follwed by Christopher Gagin, who had 1826 votes.

Thomas and Echemann will face off in the November General Election.

Meanwhile, voters in the county weighed in on several levies.

The Pease Township Fire Levy, Village of Bethesda Roads and Bridges Levy, Flushing Township Roads and Bridges Levy, and the Pultney Towship EMS and Fire Levies were all approved.
