The Athenian Berean Community Players (“ABC Players” for short) promise live theater for every taste in the upcoming 2018-2019 season.  The resident community theater company at Stuart’s Opera House, this local, all-volunteer group will produce five shows in the next ten months.  As tickets are released for purchase, they will be available for all of the performances from the Opera House ticket office:  740-753-1924 or www.stuartsoperahouse.org.  Prices for all shows are $12, discounted to $8 for students.

Coming in October is “Spring Awakening,” the electrifying, Tony Award winning rock musical about teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of their sexuality.  The show will be directed by Christina Barkhurst-McKinney with music direction by Devin Sudman. “Spring Awakening” runs October 18, 19 and 20, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. and October 21 at 2 p.m.

This year’s Christmas show is “Seussical Jr.,” in which the Cat in the Hat leads Jojo on adventures and teaches him to use his imagination.  In the Jungle of Nool, Horton hears a faint call for help and saves the Whos. Directed by Jodi MacNeal, performances will be November 30 and Dec 1, 2018 at 7:30 p.m., with matinées December 1 and 2 at 2 p.m.

The audience is invited to “Be Our Guest!” in one of the many wonderful songs from the spring production:  “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.”  The Academy Award-winning film comes to life in this romantic and beloved take on the classic fairytale.  The show will be directed by Chris Parsons with music direction by Devin Sudman.  The show will be on-stage at the Opera House March 1, 2, 8 and 9, 2019 at 7:30 p.m., with matinées March 3, 9, and 10 at 2 p.m.

In May, Celeste Parsons will direct “The 39 Steps,” a hilarious mashup of a Hitchcock masterpiece, a spy thriller, and Monty Python.  The show will run May 2, 3 and 4, 2019 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinée performance on May 5 at 2 p.m.

For something a little different, Alexa Ross will be directing “Burlesque Humor Revisited,” a fast-paced, naughty romp through the jokes, puns, slow burns and double takes 20th century American comedians cut their teeth on.  This show will be performed June 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m.
