Sibner Leads Vinton County Past River Valley
< < Back toBoth the Vinton County Vikings (2-6)(1-3) and River Valley Raiders (0-9(0-5)) were looking for their first TVC-Ohio win on Friday. After a scoreless first quarter, Vinton County took control.
With 10:40 remaining in the second quarter, Vinton County’s senior running back Cade Sibner broke free for a long touchdown run. The missed extra-point would leave the score at 6-0 in favor of the Vikings.
Sibner added a three-yard touchdown run with 5:50 left. The Vikings converted on the two-point conversion with an Aaron Stevens run.
Vinton County forced River Valley to a three-and-out on the ensuing drive and partially blocked the punt. Cole Young returned the punt inside the River Valley fifteen yard-line.
With less than a minute left in the first half, Sibner scored his third touchdown of the half with a nine-yard run. Vinton County headed to the locker room with a 21-0 halftime lead.
In total, the Vikings had 195 yards of total offense in the first half. Cade Sibner ran for 80 yards on 11 carries and junior Jacob Wells added 52 yards on six carries.
Vinton County returned the opening kick-off of the second half 80 yards for a touchdown, making the score 28-0.
After Zayne Karr intercepted a Jordan Burns pass on the next River Valley drive. Wells scored from three yards out with 8:09 left in the third quarter. That touchdown would make the score 35-0, enforcing a running clock in the remainder of the game.
Vinton County returns home to host Nelsonville-York next Friday and will finish the season on the road at Wellston. River Valley plays their remaining two games on the road at Athens and South Gallia.
