W. Va. Teachers, Clean Communities Awarded

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection has awarded prizes for clean counties and communities as well as environmental teachers of the year.
The teachers of the year are Amanda Morris of Pleasant Valley Elementary in Calhoun County, Penni Harris of Elkins Middle School in Randolph County and Richard Parsons of Herbert Hoover High School in Kanawha County. Each teacher receives a $500 personal award and a $1,000 award to promote science, technology, engineering and math education.
Two counties were recognized as “clean counties.” They are Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority, which received the $2,000 first-place award, and McDowell County Solid Waste Authority, which was awarded the $1,000 second-place award.
Clean communities are Beech Bottom, which received a $500 grand prize; Buckhannon, Hamlin, New Cumberland, Ravenswood and Wardensville.
