The Federal Hocking Lady Lancers dominated the first half with their aggressive work ethic and finishing several crucial outside shots, yet could not pull out a win over the Alexander Lady Spartans this year.

Alexander was able to force 16 turnovers this game due to their high defensive pressure, leading them to score several points in the second half.

The Lady Spartans won the game by a final score of 52-36.

Rachel Richardson and Kena Rice were the leading scorers for the Lady Spartans, scoring 17 and 14 points respectively. Meanwhile, Paige Tolson led the way for the Lady Lancers with 13 points.

In the second half, the Lady Lancers were able to take advantage of the Lady Spartan defense at several points in the game, but could not make their open shots.

Alexander’s defense had a change of atmosphere at the beginning of the fourth quarter when Marlee Grinstead made a huge defensive block for the team. Although, this alone was not enough to bring the team to a victory.

The Lady Lancers went 13/21 for their free throws (61%) on Monday night which could have made an impact to the final score.

Federal Hocking head coach Jeremy Tolson described how the young team is looking forward to improving from last year with three crucial starters returning, as well as how they’ll utilize their hard work ethic against other teams.

“Tonight I really felt like our girls played with composure,” Tolson said. “We had mistakes here and there, but all in all I thought we played them really tough.”

Tolson is confident the younger players will improve their skills later in the season, learning from the returners.

“Every single day in practice their work ethic comes from three core kids that started last year and they work hard and get after it, take it very serious and it shows on the floor,” Tolson said. “We have some younger kids and they are feeding off of that and in some time they will get in the same page, fix a few things here and there, but defensively we did a great job.”

The Federal Hocking Lady Lancers are set to play away on Thursday, November 29 against the Southern Lady Tornadoes where they hope to bounce back and get their first win of the season.
