Ohio Women’s Basketball: Bobcats claw way to victory over IUPUI

In their first game after final exams, Ohio (9-0) passed their first road test by defeating the Jaguars (6-4), 73-66.
Ohio came out strong as they led 25-18 at the end of the first quarter. They shot 10-for-14 from the field, including five three-pointers in the opening quarter.
The Bobcats went to the locker room with a 39-33 lead and only shot 28.6 percent from the field in the second quarter.
Erica Johnson led the team with 13 points and six rebounds in the first half. CeCe Hooks and Dominique Doseck had eight points each. The Bobcats forced nine turnovers and scored 15 points off turnovers.
IUPUI was a perfect 13-for-13 from the free-throw line. Macee Williams, who was five-for-five from the line, led the Jaguars with 15 points at the half.
After Ohio led 45-35 with 7:07 left in the third quarter, IUPUI went on a 16-2 scoring run to finish the quarter and led 51-47. The Bobcats only shot three-of-eleven from the field and missed all six of their three-point attempts in the quarter.
Ohio took the 58-56 lead with an Amani Burke three-pointer with 5:31 left in the game and never looked back. The Bobcats put the game out of reach in the final half minute by making all four of their free throw attempts.
With the win, Ohio remains perfect at 9-0 and matches their best start in program history, which was last achieved in the 1985-1986 season.
Johnson finished with a career-high 22 points and seven rebounds. Hooks scored 19 points and Doseck also reached double figures with 11 points. Ohio finished the day shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 10-of-27 from beyond the arc.
The Bobcats will play their second game of three straight road games on Saturday when they travel to Richmond. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
