HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) – A drug office official read about what a West Virginia city was doing to combat the opioid epidemic and decided to see it in person.

News outlets report Office of National Drug Control Policy Deputy Director James Carroll toured Huntington on Tuesday.

Carroll said people think of Huntington as being the epicenter of the problem, but really it has become the epicenter of what works. He cited the success of the Quick Response Team, which visits overdose victims within 72 hours of the overdose and works to get them into treatment. He also called a venture providing additional treatment to women with children faith in action.

Carroll said not many communities across the country have been able to come together like Huntington and that he’s bringing lessons back to Washington.
