Orman Hall is an Ohio University researcher and a former head of the state’s addiction services agency. He says that while opioids are more deadly, meth addiction in Ohio is increasing dramatically.
The Plain Dealer reports that the number of Ohioans who died from unintentional overdoses involving meth or other psychostimulants jumped from 9 in 2010 to 517 last year.
The paper says that’s according to a statewide study led by Hall. Hall says nearly eight in 10 of those deaths also involved opioids.
The trend is consistent with county coroners’ own tallies of 2017 deaths, which identified more deaths involving meth or cocaine mixed with fentanyl.
