Ohio Wrestling’s Lightweights Help the Bobcats With a Comeback Win

In a dual full of overtimes, wins by less than 2 points, and pins, it came down to the final bout. Ohio pulled it off, winning the match 21-18.
The dual started off with a close match between Ohio’s Zac Carson and NIU’s Mason Kauffman. With a score of 3-2, Carson won at 157 pounds. NIU tied up the team score with a win at 165. NIU’s Kenny Moore defeated Colt Yinger in overtime.
The Huskies continued the winning streak with back-to-back pins. Brit Wilson pinned Ben Schneider at 174 pounds, and Will Feldkamp pinned Arsen Ashughyan at 184 pounds.
In his first match for the Bobcats, Derek Hillman defeated NIU’s Max Ihry 3-1 in overtime. However, the Huskies kept the lead high with a close win at Heavyweight. NIU’s Caleb Gossett won 6-4 against Zack Parker.
Ohio’s lightweights were able to squeak out the win for the Bobcats. In another match that was decided in less than two points, 125-pounder Shakur Laney won 6-4 against Bryce West. In the 3rdovertime of the dual, Mario Guillen defeated Alijah Jeffrey at 133 pounds. Then, Cameron Kelly racked up bonus points for the Bobcats. The 141-pounder pinned Drew West.
The exciting dual was in the hands of Alec Hagan for Ohio in the end. The teams were tied with 18 points each. Following a pattern, the 149-pound bout went to overtime (the fourth one of the dual). Hagan won 8-6 in overtime against McCoy Kent.
Ohio will travel again to face Central Michigan next on February 3rd. The team then will return home to compete against Old Dominion February 8th.
