Lawton E. Templeton, 54, of Racine, was identified in a news release from the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office.
Templeton was found near Leading Creek Road Thursday night after flood waters had receded from the area.
First responders received a call at about 6:20 p.m. that night about person feared missing in the water.
Deputies say another person saw the victim stuck in the water and tried to get a rope to the victim. That witness then saw the victim swept away. The victim’s body was found a couple hundred yards downstream.
The sheriff urges drivers not to enter any high water — as it’s often impossible to gauge how deep it is or how strong the current may be.
