The Parkersburg News and Sentinel reports 40-year-old William Travis Schoonover of Parkersburg received the maximum sentence Tuesday on a second-degree murder charge in Wood County Circuit Court.
A criminal complaint says Schoonover told police that the baby’s mother, his then-girlfriend, left the baby in his care in July 2017. Police say Schoonover told them the baby wouldn’t hold still as he was changing his diaper, so Schoonover shook him by the ankles.
Parkersburg police say the baby had head trauma and other injuries.
