Did Board Properly Handle Investigation of Accused Doctor?
< < Back to did-board-properly-handle-investigation-of-accused-doctorCOLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Officials plan to share findings about whether the State Medical Board properly handled a 1996 investigation involving an Ohio State University team doctor now accused of sexually abusing young men for two decades before that investigation.
Findings on the handling of the investigation will be provided Friday.
The investigation details have remained confidential by law because the medical board never disciplined Richard Strauss.
Ohio’s governor created a working group to review the old investigation after a law firm reviewing allegations for the school concluded in May that Strauss sexually abused at least 177 young men . Lawyers for men suing Ohio State over Strauss’ sexual misconduct say there are now over 300 accusers .
Strauss retired in 1998 with an honorary status. He died in 2005.
No one has publicly defended him.
