BELPRE, Ohio- The Belpre Golden Eagles used their speed and agility to defeat the South Gallia Rebels on Friday night with a 42-12 victory in the seventh game of the season. While the Eagles stumbled to take off early in the game, they soon caught up and soared near the end.

South Gallia Rebels running back Kyle Northup set the tone when he scored the first touchdown of the game, a 25-yard run with 4:56 left in the first quarter. The two-point conversion by the Rebels was unsuccessful making the score 6-0.

The game was riddled with penalties on defense and offense from both sides of the field, as the referees let the flags fly throughout the game. The Golden Eagles defense prevented the Rebels offense from gaining yards all evening with fierce control of the line of scrimmage.

Northup had a lot of success when he rushed the ball and was able to move the chains for the Rebels, though it wasn’t enough to maintain the early lead.

The Golden Eagles were finally able to spread their wings with 7:39 left in the second quarter. Running back Logan Adams scored a 5-yard touchdown, which put the Eagles on the board for the first time in the game and gave Belpre a 7-6 lead.

Connor Baker ran for a touchdown in the second quarter. Later, a successful 63-yard pass between Baker and Walker Feick allowed the Eagles to keep soaring with 1:55 left in the second quarter. Overall, Baker had good chemistry with Walker Feick and completed a lot of passes throughout the game. The extra point conversion by the Golden Eagles was good and made the score 14-6.

Belpre’s offense was ultimately able to take flight in the second and third quarters with 28 unanswered points, extending their lead to 28-6 going into the fourth quarter.

The Golden Eagles continued to prey on the Rebels toward the end of the game, scoring two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to secure their victory.

This victory puts the Belpre Golden Eagles at 5-2. Next week, they will return home and continue to seek the Tri-Valley Ohio Championship against the Warren Warriors, while the South Gallia Rebels play the Wahama White Falcons in an effort to get their season back on track.
