ALEXANDER, Ohio- Nelsonville-York traveled to the same gym they just lost in less than 48 hours prior.

This time they played Wellston in a neutral site game, because it was the “Turn It Gold Classic” at Alexander High School. The “Turn It Gold Classic” is raising money towards research for childhood cancer research.

Nelsonville-York seemed unaffected by the previously tough environment, winning 62-36 over Wellston.

This was the first game for the Lady Buckeyes that they’ve been able to relax in the fourth quarter all season. Their first two games were very close wins, and their third game was a three point loss.

Nelsonville-York got off to a hot start thanks to nine first quarter points from Grace Sinnott. She dueled with Daycee Clemons who had 11 of the Golden Rockets 12 points in the quarter.

After one quarter of play, the Buckeyes held a commanding 20-12 lead thanks to Sinnott and Mackenzie Hurd’s offensive output.

Clemons would end the half with 19 of the Golden Rockets 22 points, but the Buckeyes held a 38-22 lead.

NY then turned up on defense with unique full-court pressure defenses and was able to shut out Clemons in the second half.

That strong defense helped the Buckeyes hold Wellston to only one fourth quarter point.

Grace Sinnott was dominant on the offensive end, finishing with 26 points on the night. Her outside shooting helped space the floor for drives and passes near the basket.

Mackenzie and Haley Hurd were a strong offensive combo for the Buckeyes, scoring 29 points as each sister was in double-figures.

Wellston’s only scorer who ended in double figures was Clemons, her 19 points were the second most in the game.

This victory makes Nelsonville-York 3-1 on the young season. This victory also brings the Buckeyes to 1-1 in TVC Ohio play.
