Lady Buckeyes Get the Edge Over Alexander< < Back to
NELSONVILLE, Ohio- It was a hard fought fight to the finish when the Alexander Lady Spartans took on the Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes Thursday night in Nelsonville. The two teams toward the top of the TVC-Ohio were tied in the first two quarters, but in the end, the Lady Buckeyes had the edge with a 42-35 victory.
Marlee Grinstead of the Alexander Lady Spartans came out firing in the first half and kept the Lady Spartans afloat against the unstoppable Lady Buckeye offense.
Grinstead finished the night with 19 points, 54% of Alexander’s total. She also had seven rebounds.
The Lady Spartans were aggressive on defense, but it wasn’t enough to stop Joscelyn Heller and Mackenzie Hurd. Heller put up 15 points and Hurd finished close behind with 11 points on the night.
The fourth quarter was the turning point where the Lady Buckeyes sealed the deal. The Lady Spartans rushed through plays and made big mistakes which cost them the game. Alexander scored 14 points in the second half compared to the Lady Buckeyes’ 21.
Both teams look to continue their successful seasons as they head to playoffs next week.
