The Union Announces Weekend Shows Will Be Rescheduled

Last night The Union announced that it would be postponing the shows they had planned for the weekend (The Wingnuts, The Infinite Improbability Drive Tomorrow Daily, and Boy Jorts) and rescheduling them as soon as possible. In the meantime the downstairs bar will maintain their typical business hours.

This is all in response to Governor Mike DeWine’s declaration of a state of emergency throughout the state of Ohio earlier this week, and his statewide banning of all gatherings of more than 100 people on Thursday, March 12 in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Read their statement, posted on Facebook, below.

Hey Union Friends!

We’ve been getting the “how will this affect things at The Union” question for a few days now and we’d like to address it here.

We’ve heard overwhelmingly that people want us to stay open and for the shows to still happen, and that’s absolutely what we want as well. However, we have decided in discussion with our staff and the acts scheduled to play (The Wingnuts, The Infinite Improbability Drive Tomorrow Daily, and Boy Jorts) that we will be postponing this weekend’s shows to be rescheduled as soon as possible.

We expect the situation to develop over the weekend and early next week, and will keep everyone posted regarding upcoming events at The Union. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we navigate these challenges. We would love to continue hosting shows and being Athens’ best live music venue; part of being an excellent venue is exercising an abundance of caution. That’s what we’re doing here.

In regards to our continued bar service: we will remain open during regular hours, downstairs. We’ve reviewed all available information from the Athens City-County Health Department and have incorporated their guidance into our cleaning and sanitation regiments. We will be taking any guidance that they give us. We’ve also been in discussion with our friends in town (Casa Nueva Restaurant & Cantina, Jackie O’s Brewery, Stuart’s Opera House, and others) about what extra measures they are taking.

So we’re going to be undertaking extra sanitation measures at the bar. We need you to help us by staying away from the bar while you’re sick or may be sick. We believe that this combination of efforts will allow us to continue safe, effective bar service. We hope to see you soon.

Rock on,
The Union
