Athens Humane Society and Friends of the Shelter Dogs Offer Pet Food Assistance
< < Back toATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Two Athens County animal welfare agencies are teaming up to assist residents who may be unable to afford food for their pets during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Athens County Humane Society and Friends of the Shelter Dogs have set up an email address to help those in need.
“In the tough days ahead we realize that it might be hard to make ends meet,” the Humane Society wrote on Facebook. “We don’t want anyone to have to make the choice of surrendering their pet because they can’t afford to feed them.”
Anyone who needs help is asked to email petfoodhelp@athenshumane.org. This applies to food for cats, dogs, and other small animals such as gerbils, hamsters, and guinea pigs.
Angela Marx, executive director of the ACHS, said Athens County residents are eligible for one-time assistance through this new program.
To donate pet food to this fund, drop off donations to the Athens PetSmart, Friendly Paws, or the Athens County Dog Shelter. Financial donations can be made on the Humane Society website, or mailed to the ACHS at PO Box 765, Athens, Ohio, 45701.
