Athens County Public Libraries to Host Virtual How-To Fest May 16-23
< < Back to athens-county-public-libraries-to-host-virtual-how-to-fest-may-16-23Although the Athens County Public Libraries announced late last week that all branches will begin reopening Monday, May 18 in a modified manner as to adhere to health guidelines concerning the coronavirus pandemic, the ACPL’s first large virtual event, the First Annual How-To Fest, will take place as scheduled online Saturday, May 16 through Saturday, May 23.
The weeklong Facebook live series will take place every day starting at 11 a.m. EDT on Saturday, May 16 and feature 30-minute educational lessons on everything from how to organize your home to how to read Tarot cards to how to raise your credit score. Each lesson will feature a local expert from a regional business or service.
The event was organized and initially dreamt up by Lindsay Place, Athens County Public Libraries’ assistant director, as a way to expand what the public understands the ACPL’s duty to their community to be.
“Usually people think ‘the library is for books,’ or ‘I can go in and apply for a job,'” said Place. After learning about and perhaps participating in the free series, she hopes those notions change. WOUB’s interview with Place is embedded above, and the schedule of events for the series is posted below. Participating businesses and services include the Ohio University Credit Union, Real World Organizing, Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery, Athens-Hocking County Mobility, and Moon and Wheel.
