This Week From the Radio Free Athens Crew: August 15, 2020
< < Back toIn the before times, Radio Free Athens’ volunteer DJs filled the WOUB AM airwaves most Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8p.m. EDT. We’ll be back at it in time, but for now we are supplying weekly playlists and accompanying memes.

This week I tried to get away from a theme but I have been thinking a great deal lately how facial coverings are making us a faceless society. Granted they are very important in keeping us all safe but things are starting to seem like an episode of The Twilight Zone. The Billy Idol song seems very relevant now. I have also thrown in some of the new Pretenders and the new Psychedelic Furs. Be safe and you stay sexy A-Camp!
Robert Plant- Big Log
The Eurythmics- Here Comes the Rain Again
Missing Persons- Destination Unknown
Billy Idol- Eyes Without a Face
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers- Face In the Crowd
New Order- Your Silent Face
Duran Duran- Skin Trade
The Psychedelic Furs- The Boy That Invented Rock and Roll
The Pretenders- Hate for Sale
The Velvet Underground- What Goes On
Bobby Womack- It’s All Over Now
The Faces- Ooh La La
The Twilight Zone Theme

I’m back to how I was in the early days of quarantine, listening to only the Relics of the Incredible String Band.
The Incredible String Band – The Hedgehog’s Song
Bedouine – Nice and Quiet
La Roux – Bulletproof
Lil Kim – The Jump Off
Tim Hardin – Don’t Make Promises
Lydia Loveless – Love Is Not Enough
The Lemonheads – Rudderless (Demo), My Drug Buddy (Demo), Bit Part (Demo), Big Gay Heart (’93 Demo)

If you’ve ever been accused by a relative, friend or acquaintance of “listening to that weird music again”, this week’s tunes are for you. Sometimes, you just have to veer off of the main road if for no other reason than to see what’s there, or maybe to remind yourself why there even is a main road. Take the highway to the end of the night…
