In the before times, Radio Free Athens’ volunteer DJs filled the WOUB AM airwaves most Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8p.m. EDT. We’ll be back at it in time, but for now we are supplying weekly playlists and accompanying memes.

It is one of the great times of the year for some of us.  It is the time of Leos.  We, who are so humble and loveable, would like you to celebrate with us.  This week’s playlist is a tribute to all of my fellow Leos including The Edge who has the same birthday as me. A very special shout out to Tony Bennett, a Leo, who just turned 94.

I’ve got a nice balance of geeky and cool going on in this playlist. This is my favorite version of “Colours,” imagine if Donovan had done a record with the Incredible String Band? I like to imagine I live in a version of reality so rosy that Donovan is considered cooler than Bob Dylan, because to me he definitely is — even though I do give “Rough and Rowdy Ways” and 9.5/10, because I am a music critic and physically incapable of giving it less. Also, this introvert misses her friends – who else understands my jokes about Donovan and has DEMANDED (successfully) that the bar play MC5 just because I want to hear them kick out the jams at 1:30 in the morning?

Donovan – Colours
The New Pornographers – My Rights Versus Yours
Lord David Dundas – Jeans On
Bobby Caldwell – Open Your Eyes
Darondo – Didn’t I?
Steve Arrington – Beddie-Bey
Erykah Badu – Green Eyes
All My Friends – LCD Soundsystem

Once upon a time, my friends and I would have told you our favorite music is called “space music”. There’s still no Grammy category for it, but I swear it’s a real genre. This is how I know:
