Authorities Recover Stolen Holiday Mail In Athens County
< < Back to authorities-recover-stolen-holiday-mail-in-athens-countyATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — According to a press release, on December 23, 2020, The Athens City Police Department and The Athens County Sheriff’s Office searched a home on Scatter Ridge Road for evidence of mail and package theft.
More than 500 pieces of evidence were recovered including, federal passports, envelopes, Christmas cards, gift cards, family photos, money orders, checks and other personal documentation.
Investigators also reportedly found prescription narcotics, suspected methamphetamine related abuse instruments and suspected heroin
Dalton Spangler, age 26, of Athens, wasn’t at home at the time, but was arrested during a traffic stop. Stolen items were also reportedly found in his vehicle.
Sheriff Rodney Smith said, “The Grinch who has plagued our area with these crimes, has been caught.”
Charges will be announced once the drug related items are tested and the number of victims is established.
