Ohio University should end this fiscal year on June 30 with a budget surplus thanks to large infusions of federal stimulus funds and higher state subsidies. However, major budgetary shortfalls are predicted for the next four years.

David Forster, News Assignment Editor at WOUB Public Media, has been covering, in-depth, the University’s budget story and the most recent Board of Trustees meeting.

He has analyzed data to find that the University’s budget woes are far from over and more cuts are on the horizon.

Ohio University’s enrollment is slated to decline sharply next year meaning fewer state dollars will be put in the University’s coffers.

Ohio University also is not keeping pace with student enrollment compared to its competitors Ohio State, University of Cincinnati and Miami University, according to Forster.

Please listen to Forster’s conversation with host Tom Hodson as Forster explains the pending budget woes.
