“Monk’s Sphere”
This Saturday’s “Excursions” will present a birthday celebration of the music of Thelonious Sphere Monk, one of the foundational figures of the modern American music known as Bebop.
Monk’s oeuvre-some seventy compositions-has provided a framework, challenge, and direction to Jazz artists for over seven decades.
Excursions’ Motifs:
-Various interpretations of Monk.
-Monk’s four Tenors.
-Large ensemble works.
-Brief discographic survey.
