Five COVID-related deaths have been reported in Athens County, along with 10 new cases for Oct. 29

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 88 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after four were added to the total Friday. The county also has now had 7,865 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 10 new cases were reported for the same day.

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the deaths and cases on Oct. 29, 2021.

Analysis of ODH data indicates the deaths involved two people in their 50s, a person in their 40s, a person in their 60s and a person in their 70s.

According to ODH data, the cases involved three people 0-19, three people 30-39, two people 50-59, one person 20-29 and one person 40-49.

There are 410 known active cases in the county as of Friday and 7,467 recovered cases, according to ODH.

A total of 48.45% of the county has started the vaccination process and 45.56% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 3,104 additional doses administered.

Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.

Friday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 1,539,490 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide after 3,485 cases were reported in the last 24 hours. There have been 79,651 hospitalizations and 24,527 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:

• Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
• Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
• Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Avoid contact with people who are sick.
