The 99th death has been reported in Athens County, along with 28 new COVID-19 cases for Dec. 14
< < Back to 28-new-covid-19-cases-were-reported-in-athens-county-for-dec-14ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 99 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after one was added to the total Tuesday. The county also has now had 8,591 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 28 new cases were added the same day.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the death and cases on Dec. 14, 2021.
Analysis of ODH data indicates the death involved a person in their 70s.
According to ODH data, the cases involved 15 people 0-19, six people 30-39, two people 20-29, two people 50-59, two people 60-69 and one person 70-79.
One previously reported case required hospitalization for a person 80 or older. According to the data, 307 people in Athens County have been hospitalized due to complications related to this coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
There are 350 known active cases in the county as of Monday and 8,142 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 51.28% of the county has started the vaccination process and 47.93% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 11,300 additional doses administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
Tuesday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 1,796,951 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide after 9,922 cases were reported in the last 24 hours. This is a significant increase in the number of cases since Monday, and as noted in the graphic below it is the result of a laboratory reporting delay. Because of this delay, about 1,725 cases from testing dating back to September are included in Tuesday’s numbers.
There have been 90,923 hospitalizations and 27,594 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
