Trimble’s stellar season comes to an end with a loss to Western in District Finals
< < Back to trimbles-stellar-season-comes-to-an-end-with-a-loss-to-western-in-district-finalsLatham Western and Trimble faced off Friday night in the District Finals. For the Tomcats, they faced a 56-40 loss and will not be moving on. It was apparent from the start who showed up and wanted the victory and to advance further in the tournament.
That team was Western.
From the beginning, Western was able to prevent Trimble from taking off and from many different opportunities to find the paint. The Tomcats may have led 19 to 14 after one quarter but from there on it was complete domination from the Wildcats.
Blake Guffey is one of the bright spots for the Tomcats that didn’t see the ball much and when he did things didn’t go well for him. Guffey had only six points in the loss. Western knew that he is a player who dominates for the Tomcats and didn’t let him have the opportunity to unleash.
Going into halftime Trimble was down 38-28. It wasn’t what it wanted to see but it knew it could come back with a fight.
Throughout the second half, Western was able to continue to extend its lead even in times that Trimble tried to make a run. Western forced turnovers and more importantly was able to convert points on the board in essential moments. It had a handful of players that put up points and showed up on the defensive side of the ball.
In the end, Trimble just couldn’t get the job done. With the loss, the Tomcats say goodbye to seven seniors and a successful season.
