One COVID-related death has been reported in Athens County, along with 19 new cases for March 25-31

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 138 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after one was added to the total Thursday. The county also has now had 14,490 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 19 new cases were added since last week’s update.

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on March 31, 2022.

Analysis of ODH data indicates the death involved a person 80 or older.

According to ODH data, the cases involved five people 0-19, five people 20-29, three people 40-49, two people 30-39, two people 50-59, one person 70-79 and one person 80+.

There are 87 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 14,265 recovered cases, according to ODH.

Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.

Thursday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 3,103 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide were reported since last week’s update. There were also 297 hospitalizations, 19 ICU admissions and 249 deaths reported in the same time period.

ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
