One COVID-related death has been reported in Athens County, along with 185 new cases for July 29 – Aug. 4

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 147 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after one was added to the total Thursday. The county also has now had had 16,782 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 185 additional cases were reported since last week’s update.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on Aug. 4, 2022.
Analysis of ODH data indicates the death involved a person in their 70s.
The cases involved 34 people 20-29, 25 people 0-19, 25 people 30-39, 25 people 60-69, 23 people 40-49, 21 people 50-59, 19 people 70-79 and 13 people 80+.
There are 563 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 16,072 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 53.13% of the county has started the vaccination process and 49.53% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 18,054 first boosters and 4,245 second boosters administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
