The Vikings won the coin toss and quickly exhausted their first possession. The Tomcats played a similar first possession, but quarterback Brandon Burtette took matters into his own hands with an 18-yard rush right off the rip.
A few downs later, a pass from Burtette got deflected by Vinton County’s Dawson Brown.
In Trimble’s second possession, they recovered their own fumble and began eating the turf slowly. Burtette continued to make small rushes, helping them to advance down the field. The Tomcats did not finish their drive in the first quarter but picked up at the 13-yard line during the second.
During their first play of the second quarter, Burtette launched it into Chayse Henry for the first points of the game.
The Tomcats went up 6-0 with 11:56 left in the first half.
On the ensuing kick-off, the Viking’s Matt Hembree returned the ball for a 70-yard rushing touchdown.
The score became 7-6, Vinton County, with 11:41 left in the first half. But that wouldn’t be the only big run of the game.
A little later in the second quarter Zeke Moliham, the Vikings quarterback, took the ball from their own 41-yard line and ran it all the way.
Vinton County up over Trimble 14-6.
Moliham would add 21 more rushing yards, as well as another touchdown to his stat line just a few minutes later.
The Tomcats would stall the clock for the rest of the half, the score at the end half was 21-6.
The Vikings would go on to score one more touchdown in the third quarter, as well as one in the fourth. They went up 13-0 in the second half beating Trimble 34-6 at the end of the game.
Vinton County will play the Meigs Marauders Friday, Sept.9 at home.
The Trimble Tomcats will go on to play Fairland, also at home, Sept 9.
