141 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Athens County for Sept. 16 – Sept. 22

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 18,404 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 141 additional cases were reported since last week’s update.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on Sept. 22, 2022.
According to ODH data, the cases involved 35 people 0-19, 34 people 20-29, 15 people 50-59, 13 people 30-39, 12 people 40-49, 12 people 70-79, 10 people 60-69 and 10 people 80+.
Two previously confirmed cases required hospitalization for a person in their 20s and a person in their 60s. According to the data, 377 people in Athens County have been hospitalized due to complications related to this coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
There are 671 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 17,582 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 53.40% of the county has started the vaccination process and 49.72% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 18,357 first boosters and 5,088 second boosters administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
