Ironton continues to wear the undefeated crown with a big win over Gallia Academy
< < Back toIRONTON, Ohio (WOUB) — Ironton’s powerhouse offensive abilities and a sturdy defensive performance helped the Tigers defeat the Gallia Academy Blue Devils 29-22 at Ironton High School Friday night.
Starting off the first quarter, Ironton’s Landon Wilson found himself in the end zone on a fourth down to get the first score of the night. With the touchdown, the Tigers led the Blue Devils 7-0 going into the second quarter of play.
With 11:30 left in the second quarter, the Tigers found themselves another touchdown when Tayden Carpenter ran into the endzone. The Tigers were then able to capitalize their lead on a successful two-point conversion, making the score 15-0.
Later in the quarter, the Tigers scored another touchdown when Jacques Keys ran into the endzone for a touchdown.
The Blue Devils fought back with 1:28 left in the first half, with a two-yard touchdown by Hudson Shamblin.
At the end of the first half, the Tigers led the Blue Devils 22-7.
Coming out of the break, both teams were feeling the chillness of the night and remained scoreless throughout the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was filled with action. The Blue Devils scored two touchdowns to decrease the Tiger’s lead and completed a two-point conversion to make it 22-22 with just minutes left of final play.
The Tigers did not let the Blue Devils’ comeback discourage them and they fought back with a touchdown that won them the game with the final score being 29-22.
With this win, the Tiger’s undefeated reign of 9-0 remains untouched. Next week, the Tigers travel to Portsmouth to face off against the Trojans.
As for the Blue Devils, their record goes to 7-2 (4-2 in OVC). The Blue Devils host the South Point Pointers next week for their final home game of the regular season.
