This was a dog fight between two conference rivals. This game went down to the wire. But the Buckeyes ended up securing the win and will most likely secure their spot as champions of the TVC-Ohio.
Vinton County started off with the ball first and ran the ball for most of the plays of the first quarter before running it into the end zone for a touchdown. This left Nelsonville-York with the ball with a little under two minutes left in the first. But they didn’t even need the rest of the quarter to answer the Vikings’ points because Makhi Williams would throw a 34 yard pass for a touchdown to put Nelsonville York at six.
They would end up going for one but then the defense got called on a flag for encroachment which put the ball on the one. The Buckeyes would then decide to go for two but couldn’t get it into the end zone.
Vinton County would be up 7-6. Later on in the quarter Makhi Williams would throw an interception and would give Vinton County a pick six which Garett Brown would be the one to take it to the house.
At the end of the second quarter a questionable pass interference call would put the ball at the vikings 10 yard line. This would lead the buckeyes to score another touchdown to tie the game 14-14 right before the half.
Both teams would score one more touchdown each but Vinton County kicker would miss an extra point to tie up the game and would make the final score 21-20 Nelsonville-York.
Nelsonville-York goes against Athens for a week 10 matchup. Don’t expect the Bulldogs to lay down because they are looking to upset the Buckeyes and finish off their season with 3 wins.
The last time the Vikings won the TVC-Ohio championship was in 1999. Even though this year doesn’t have much hope towards the goal of defeating that streak. They still will look to continue their season into the playoffs. But before they make it to the playoffs they will have to go against Wellston which will be looking to fight for their only win of the season.
