Zane Trace loses first game of the year, drops to Madeira in Regional Quarterfinals
< < Back to zane-trace-loses-first-game-of-the-year-drops-to-madeira-in-regional-quarterfinalsCHILLICOTHE, Ohio (WOUB) — In a win or go home matchup in the second round of the playoffs in region 20 the Madeira Mustangs defeated the Zane Trace Pioneers 28-19, ending their undefeated season.
The Pioneers on their opening drive leaned on the ground game with QB Carter Langley and Running back Daniel Barnhart. The Pioneers drew first blood with a two-yard rushing touchdown from Daniel Barnhart. They would miss the extra point making the score 6-0.
The Mustangs answered quickly as on their opening drive they used the ground game with a combination of QB Peter Breidenbach and Running back Nicholas Heisser. Heisser took a seven-yard carry into the end zone to make the score 7-6.
The next Mustang drive they used the ground game again to get deep in the red zone. Peter Breidenbach ran into the endzone on a five-yard carry making the score 14-6. On the Pioneers next drive, they went for it on fourth and nine and moved the chains off a pass interference call. Deep in the red zone Carter Langley ran into the end zone on a two-yard carry making the score 14-13.
The Mustangs used the ground game again this time with Running back Maxwell Autry. The Mustangs got in the end zone again as Maxwell Autry scored off a 11-yard carry making the score 21-13. On the Pioneers next drive Running Back Blake Phillips fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Colin Miranda for the Mustangs. The Mustangs capitalized off this as Peter Breidenbach found his Tight end Connor Cravaack for a 13-yard touchdown making the score 28-13.
To start the third quarter the Pioneer defense forced a quick three and out. The Pioneer offense used the ground game with Daniel Barnhart. The Pioneers found the endzone off of a 25-yard touchdown rush from Daniel Barnhart but failed on a two-point conversion attempt making the score 28-19.
With 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter the Pioneers put together a good drive that seemed bound for a touchdown, but they fumbled the ball on fourth and one, turning the ball over. The Mustangs would use the ground game and chew out the rest of the clock ending the game.
Zane Trace ends their season 11-1 and will look to bounce back next season.
Madeira (11-1) will play Valley View in the third round of the playoffs in region 20.
