ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — In a non-conference game, the Athens Lady Bulldogs failed to pull out a win against the Circleville Tigers with a final score of 49-34.

Going into the match-up, Athens was 3-4 outside of their conference, and this game would continue to show the difficulty the team encounters when they are outside of the Tri Valley Conference.

Heading into the second quarter, Circleville led 13-12, but it still served as anybody’s game. Both teams came out strong and were competitive early on.

In the opening half, the Lady Bulldogs were found hasty on offense. They had 11 turnovers in the first half, and 14 total.

Rebounding also proved to be a challenge for Athens. With only 12 defensive rebounds, the Tigers had more scoring opportunities than the Bulldogs that they were able to take advantage of.

The end of the first half had Circleville in charge with a score of 24-15.

For the game, Athens scored 3/20 from beyond the arc, which could have made the difference for the team in this ball game.

With less than two and half minutes left in the fourth quarter, Athens found themselves in a 7-point hole, 33-40.

In the final stretch, Athens fell short, only scoring one point in crunch time.

For the Lady Bulldogs, Ella Chapman had 11 points and 2 steals, and Quinn Banks also had 11 points, with 9 of those coming from 3-point shots.

On Thursday, Athens looks to come back strong for another conference win over River Valley at home in the McAfee Gymnasium at 7:30pm.
